Let’s Start Creating An Antique Store
We’re going to use the dedicated Shopify page for antiques and their free trial to build one out.
I like that they have a dedicated page going over selling antiques personally.
Step 1:
Ok, so first will go to that page to get started and start a free trial.
Note: Look around a little bit to check out their info on selling antiques.
Step 2:
Sign up for a free trial and do the onboarding which just gets you signed up but as well asks you some questions about what you will be selling on your website.
Step 3: Check Out The Dashboard
As you can see I’ve pointed out some key things.

- Top right is the sidekick assistant to utilize AI
- On the left is the full dashboard. On the very bottom you will see a “settings” link too.
Step 4: Set Up Your Antiques Theme
To do this click on the “Online Store” button on the left or if you look in the middle it will say to “Design your online store in seconds” or something like that.
Let’s do the easiest route and utilize the middle “Design your online store in seconds”
From here you can utilize AI and literally just type in a description of your antique store idea.
From here it’s going to give you your recommendations

After you make your if you scroll down a bit you can check out the other themes too.
I’m going to use the one on the left
- Now just hit try theme when you hover over it
- Then hit customize
Now you can start designing it out.
Step 5: Add One Of Your Antique Items
- On the left side, click products
- Then add products
- Now you will be on the products page
- Look up in the top for a little face and hit that because that’s your sidekick to help use AI to build out your product description.
- Type in a product description I used “Create a product description for a gold antique watch“
- Hit preview and it will add it right to your listing

From here just start adding in your pictures and tweaking it to your likings.
You should have your first product up fast.
Step 6: Set up your store setting
Look right in the middle and set up your store settings that they walk you through.
This includes
- Setting up Shopify payments
- Set up and confirm shipping rates
- Name your antique store
- Pick a plan you want. If you do most likely just do the Basic Plan
Step 7: Place a test order and get ready to launch your store
Let’s walk through the steps to place a test order!
1. Using Shopify’s Bogus Gateway
This method allows you to simulate transactions without real charges.
Deactivate Active Payment Providers:
- Navigate to Settings > Payments in your Shopify admin.
- For any active payment provider, click Manage and then Deactivate.
Activate Bogus Gateway:
- In the Payment providers section, select (for testing) Bogus Gateway.
- Click Activate (for testing) Bogus Gateway and then Save.
Place a Test Order:
- Visit your online store and proceed to checkout as a customer.
- Use the following test payment details:
- Name on card: Bogus Gateway
- Credit card number: Enter
1
for a successful transaction,2
for a failed transaction, or3
to simulate an error. - CVV: Any 3-digit number (e.g., 111).
- Expiry Date: Any future date.
Deactivate Bogus Gateway:
- After testing, return to Settings > Payments.
- Click Manage next to (for testing) Bogus Gateway and select Deactivate.
2. Using Shopify Payments Test Mode
If you’re using Shopify Payments, you can enable test mode to simulate transactions.
Enable Test Mode:
- Go to Settings > Payments in your Shopify admin.
- Under Shopify Payments, click Manage.
- In the Test mode section, check Enable test mode and save.
Place a Test Order:
- Visit your store and add a product to the cart.
- At checkout, use the following test credit card details:
- Card Number:
4242 4242 4242 4242
- Name on Card: Any name
- Expiry Date: Any future date
- CVV: Any 3-digit number
- Card Number:
Disable Test Mode:
- After testing, return to Settings > Payments.
- Under Shopify Payments, click Manage.
- Uncheck Enable test mode and save.

Step 8: Remove that store password
Basically this is in place because you don’t want people accessing it while you’re creating it.

- From your Shopify admin, go to Online Store > Preferences.
- In the Password protection section, deselect Restrict access to visitors with the password.
- Click Save.
